Pewter

For established US business owners

Act while your firm's operating records still exist.

Labs are buying now. One AI data company alone has committed $1 billion over the next twelve months. When subscriptions lapse or a firm winds down, archives get deleted and that value is gone. Pewter helps owners understand whether their records are likely to sell, brings a written offer from the licensing partner and coordinates the deal through payment.

Questions before you start

Questions owners bring to the first call

Is this a genuine payment opportunity or just a pitch?

This is a real market. According to our licensing partner, firms with 60 to 100 people have been paid $350,000 to $650,000; Google's successful $10 million bid for Spirit Airlines' records appears in a federal court filing. These deals involved other firms, not us. You'll receive your offer in writing before making a commitment, and many offers fall below these amounts.

Will I have to pay anything?

No payment is due from you at any point. When a deal closes, our licensing partner pays Pewter a fee. Without a deal, there is no fee.

Who handles which parts, and who is your client?

Pewter identifies and qualifies the opportunity, assesses your records, presents the offer and coordinates the deal. The licensing partner makes the offer, signs the license with you and pays you; you find out its identity before signing anything. Since the partner pays our fee, we don't act as your lawyer or agent. We aren't a law firm or registered broker-dealer, and we recommend having your own counsel review the agreement.

Does the data leave my control?

No. The agreement licenses an approved, de-identified copy. Your original files stay yours, and your ownership is unchanged.

Could this reveal information about clients or employees?

Before delivery, we remove or replace names, contact details, account numbers, credentials and payment details. Regulated, privileged or third-party records may be left out. Since no method eliminates every risk, you review the process and a sample before signing. Our approach to records.

Who can inspect my records before I sign?

Only with your agreement. We may request a small sample to assess quality before an offer, and Pewter or the licensing partner may examine it. You decide what the sample contains and may decline. We do not complete the full export until you sign.

Who uses the data, and what for?

Authorized AI developers use it to train and evaluate models, as set out in your agreement. The terms you approve specify exclusivity and permitted uses. Our free owner's guide, Before You Sell Your Data, covers the terms and questions to resolve before signing.

How much time will my team need to spend?

Expect to spend a few hours: take two or three calls and prepare a short inventory of your systems. If an export is required, your IT person or provider runs it while we coordinate. No one needs to create new data or tidy anything up.

What if I don't know what data we have?

That's common among owners. Tell us which tools you've used over time, for example email, shared drives, your accounting or operating system, and we'll figure out what's there during the call. Prefer to estimate it yourself first? Our free guide explains how to find the numbers in Google, Microsoft 365, Slack and a dozen other tools.

Why consider this now?

Labs are buying now. A single AI data company has committed $1 billion for the coming twelve months. Your history holds the value: when subscriptions lapse or a firm closes, its archives are deleted and that value disappears.
